Senior attorney/lobbyist Joe Sullivan, working closely with freshman Sen. John Howe (R-Red Wing), secured an amendment to S.F. 4 (Koch) that ensures the costs for long-term nuclear waste storage will be accounted for if the state’s nuclear power moratorium is repealed. The amendment also requires the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission to report back to the legislature on the progress of the United States Department of Energy in removing nuclear waste from Minnesota. The entire Minnesota Senate passed S.F. 4 as amended by a vote of 50 to 14 on February 3.
