Associate Attorney
As an Associate Attorney in the firm’s St. Paul office, Lacy Schumacher brings her lengthy record of criminal trial experience to help assist Flaherty & Hood municipal clients prosecute crime.
Prior to joining Flaherty & Hood in 2022, Lacy worked for the Chisago County Attorney’s Office as an Assistant County Attorney on the criminal prosecution side. She handled cases from charging through trial, whether it was traffic court or felony drug and gun offenses, criminal sexual conduct, domestic assault, or murder. She sat on the Chisago County Interagency Council, a committee designed to ensure all stakeholders in criminal sexual conduct and domestic assault cases are working together to prosecute cases effectively while remaining victim-centered. She was also the Drug Taskforce liaison and worked closely with undercover agents on investigation and prosecution of drug sales. Additionally, she provided training to law enforcement and advised them on legal issues related to search warrants, subpoenas, and arrests.
Prior to working for Chisago County, Lacy worked for the St. Cloud City Attorney’s Office as an Assistant City Attorney in criminal prosecution. There, she provided prosecution not just for St. Cloud but also for the cities of Waite Park, Sartell, and St. Joseph. She also tried a variety of misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor cases, in addition to providing training and advice to law enforcement and handling appeals.
In her undergraduate career, Lacy earned her BA from the University of Minnesota with a double major in Global Studies and Italian. She received her JD from Hamline University School of Law. In law school, she was a student manager of the Appellate Public Defender clinic as a certified student attorney, and an editor of the Journal of Public Law and Policy, and completed a summer clerkship as a Dean’s Summer Fellow after her first year of law school with Judge Robert Varco in Sherburne County.
When Lacy’s not at work, she’s spending time with her husband Greg and son Paul at their home in Minneapolis. They all love to visit the local dog parks with their corgi, Macaroni, and their cat also likes it because it gets everyone out of the house. When she’s not chasing a toddler and a dog, she enjoys gardening and baking. She volunteers her time as a mentor for law students at Mitchell Hamline and St. Thomas Schools of Law.
