Associate Attorney

Cara Brown is an associate attorney at Flaherty & Hood and practices primarily on the municipal law team serving cities across Greater Minnesota.

Prior to joining the firm in 2021, Cara was the judicial law clerk for the Honorable DeAnne Hilgers in Ramsey County in child protection, juvenile delinquency, and domestic abuse/harassment cases. Cara graduated cum laude from the University of St. Thomas School of Law where she earned her J.D. and her M.A. in public policy from the graduate school in 2019.

While in law school, Cara was selected for the George Beck Fellowship and scholarship program with the Office of Administrative Hearings where she assisted Administrative Law Judges with licensing disputes, sex offender appeals, and other administrative issues. She also externed with the Office of the Revisor of Statutes where she assisted in reorganizing uncodified laws, drafted case summaries for the legislature, and researched implications for proposed policy changes. Cara’s combination of experience in all branches of Minnesota state government gives her a unique perspective and she enjoys assisting clients navigating the intersection of law and policy.

Cara hails from South Dakota and admittedly misses driving 80 mph when crossing the state line but has called Minneapolis home for the last five years.  Outside of work she enjoys traveling abroad, spending time with friends and family, and trying to find the best eggs benedict in the Twin Cities.
