Associate Attorney

David Assaf is an Associate Attorney at Flaherty & Hood and practices primarily on the municipal law team serving cities across Greater Minnesota.

Before joining the firm in 2023, David was the judicial law clerk for the Honorable Theresa M. Neo in St. Louis County, where he drafted jury materials, prepared legal memoranda, and developed recommendations based on oral arguments and written submissions. David earned his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School and graduated cum laude in 2021.

While in law school, David was the 3L Student Director of his institution’s Environmental Law Moot Court and earned the Dorothy O. Lareau Award for Best 1L Legal Writing Brief during his first year. David also interned with the City of Duluth Attorney’s Office, where he assisted in negotiating plea agreements, conducting legal research for the civil division, and preparing memoranda addressing municipal matters. David’s varied experience working for municipal, commerce, and environmental sectors makes his knowledge a valuable asset to the firm and its clients.

David grew up in Akron, Ohio, and lived in Seattle and Vancouver before making his way to Minnesota. His passion for archaeology prompted him to pursue a master’s degree in 2014, and he spent several summers excavating in Athens, Greece. When not in the office, David enjoys cooking as well as playing and watching soccer.
