Associate Attorney

Matthew Johnson is an Associate Attorney at Flaherty & Hood and practices primarily in municipal law and criminal prosecution, serving cities throughout Minnesota.

Prior to joining the firm in 2025, Matthew worked as a Certified Student Attorney and Law Clerk at Eckberg Lammers, P.C., and the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, where he conducted legal research, drafted criminal briefs, and performed other prosecutorial tasks. Matthew also served as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable Judge Gina Brandt, drafting legal memoranda and assisting with court proceedings.

Matthew received his Juris Doctor from the University of St. Thomas School of Law after earning his B.A. in political science with a double minor in mass communications and global studies from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. While in law school, Matthew served as Vice President of the university’s American Constitution Society and participated in over 50 hours of legal volunteer work.

Having grown up in Bemidji, Matthew has a passion for serving the firm’s Greater Minnesota clients. Matthew now lives in the Twin Cities and enjoys attending all things Minnesota sports, whether it be the Vikings, Timberwolves, or Wild. When he’s not in the office, Matthew enjoys spending time outdoors and engaging in activities such as wakeboarding, pickleball, and skiing. He is also a competitive curler, competing with his local Frogtown Curling Club in St. Paul.
