Associate Attorney
Mia Benson is an associate attorney at Flaherty & Hood and practices primarily in municipal law, serving cities across Greater Minnesota, while also assisting the firm’s labor and employment team.
Prior to joining the firm in 2025, Mia served as the judicial law clerk for the Honorable Elise Larson at the Minnesota Court of Appeals, writing bench memoranda, analyzing novel legal issues, engaging in collaborative opinion-drafting, and performing other administrative work. Mia received her B.A. with high distinction from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, where she studied English Literature and American Indian Studies. She earned her J.D. summa cum laude from Mitchell Hamline School of Law, which she attended on a full merit scholarship as a Mitchell Hamline Fellows Program Scholar. Mia received CALI awards for her performances in Property, Contracts, Negotiation, and Advanced Evidence, and was recognized for having dedicated over 50 hours of time volunteering with the Minnesota Justice Foundation.
While in law school, Mia served as a Law Clerk for Nicholas Kaster, PLLP, where she prepared memoranda on wage-and-hour law issues, drafted federal court documents, and contributed to CLE papers detailing developments in the judicial interpretation of the FLSA. Having also interned with the Legal Department of the Office of Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan, Mia is particularly interested in the intersection of law and policy. A highlight of Mia’s time in law school was studying abroad in London, learning about arbitration.
Mia grew up in the Chicagoland area and now lives in the Twin Cities. In her free time, she enjoys trying new breakfast restaurants, reading memoirs, and taking hot yoga classes.
