Association Management Services

Our Association Management team works with nonprofit organizations, trade associations, coalitions, joint powers entities, and other groups and can tailor our services to build a custom solution that fits your needs. Flaherty & Hood’s nonprofit law practice offers an additional spectrum of services to nonprofit organizations seeking assistance with entity formation, governance, director and employee issues, job classification and compensation, and other legal matters.

Member Services & Engagement

Making sure members are engaged, valued, and represented is essential to helping associations successfully achieve their mission.

Our services include:

  • Establishing and maintaining membership databases
  • Developing and implementing membership engagement, recruitment, and retention strategies
  • Creating and/or coordinating member resources, including newsletters
  • Processing membership applications and managing new member onboarding
  • Overseeing membership renewals, sending invoices, and receiving dues payments
  • Serving as a point-of-contact for inquiries from members and prospective members
  • Managing vendor/business partnerships and programs

Event Planning

Each year, Flaherty & Hood plans dozens events from start-to-finish, ranging from small workshops to Days at the Capitol to multiple-day conferences with hundreds of attendees.

Flaherty & Hood also has the ability to host Board meetings, Days at the Capitol, or other events for up to 50 attendees on-site at our offices, conveniently located just across the street from the Minnesota Senate Building.

Board, Governance & Leadership

In addition to our association management team, Flaherty & Hood’s nonprofit legal practice means we can be your one-stop shop for Board, governance, and leadership needs. If you just need someone to help keep Board meetings on track, we’ve got that covered. If you’re looking for a more comprehensive audit of your organization’s governing documents, or if you’re interested in forming a new nonprofit, we can handle that too.

  • Coordinate and prepare materials for Boards of Directors, committee, and leadership meetings
  • Support short- and long-term strategic planning and goal-setting efforts, including Board and leadership retreats
  • Create, review, and/or update Articles of Incorporation, bylaws, policies, and procedures to ensure legal compliance and support for your mission and goals
  • Provide the legal and administrative guidance needed to form a new nonprofit organization

Budget & Financial Operations

Flaherty & Hood offers day-to-day financial support and can work closely with a professional accountant to provide oversight and in-depth guidance for complex situations.

Our services include:

  • Work with organization leadership to prepare an annual operating budget
  • Bill for membership dues and receive and process payments
  • Maintain accounting records using online accounting software
  • Provide basic day-to-day bookkeeping and financial reporting
  • Coordinate with accountants and/or tax preparers for annual tax filings and required and/or voluntary audits
  • Assist with the financial requirements associated with starting a new nonprofit

Media & Communications

Flaherty & Hood can help associations inform their members and promote their mission to stakeholders, policymakers, and other audiences.
